The Lodge
The new and distinctly unique Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge is nestled amongst pristine Kenyan Ravine forests on the Estoit Oloololo Escarpment. The incredible Masai Mara National Reserve and Wildebeest Migration Route, with around 120km of unbroken views, is breathtaking.
In Masai belief, “Mara” means the spotted Land, whilst “Engai” is the Masai God who created what we have labelled as the 7th wonder of the world.
The highlight of the Masai Mara’s nature-packed calendar is the Great Migration. Some 2 million animals, including Wildebeest, Zebra and Giraffe, travel from the Serengeti to cross the Mara River, where predatory lions and crocodiles eagerly await their arrival. Positioned overlooking the migration route, the Lodge invites its guests with front-row seats to one of nature’s most spectacular shows on earth.
The lodge can be accessed from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Serena /Kichwa Tembo airstrip. You will board a light aircraft for a short, incredible flight with amazing views of the Mara. Here, you are met by a team member for the spectacular transfer and game drive to the resort.
Tents
The new Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge promises luxury with spacious, beautifully furnished, tented suites. Built on raised platforms, some overlook the plateau below, while others are nestled in the forest canopy, interlinked by walkways. The 20 deluxe tented accommodations have one or two king-sized beds, modern bathroom facilities, a waterfall shower, and a large private viewing terrace. Free Wi-Fi is available in the public areas.
Small, impressive details, such as the fantastic carvings, complement the African-style furnished tents.
Food & Beverages
The lodge offers fine dining with a selection of excellent wines from its cellar. The well stocked bar gives guests the opportunity to unwind in the lounge after a thrilling game drive and you can watch the sun setting over the Masai Mara.
All accommodation booked at the Lodge is on a full board basis. The daily package consists of accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner, soft drinks, teas and coffees, wine and local spirits.
Activities
The Mara River, the reserve’s backbone, is the natural barrier crossed every year by migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra. Around July-October each year, herds of Wildebeest migrate from the Serengeti plains in search of the fresh pasture of the Masai Mara. This Great Migration is one of the most impressive natural events worldwide, involving some 2,000,000 wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelles, Topi, elands, and zebras. Hungry predators, lions, crocodiles and hyenas closely follow these migrants. Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge is advantageously positioned to provide front-row seats to this one of Mother Nature’s most spectacular shows on earth.
Although this event is a major attraction, the Masai Mara is still an excellent safari destination from January through to the beginning of April (before the start of the long rains in April) and then from June through to the end of October.
Unique to the Masai Mara, Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge has Steyr Puch Pinzgauer 6x6 safari vehicles - widely acclaimed by experts as being the most capable off-road vehicle in the world. Each vehicle has been cleverly converted to a high specification to ensure a superb, comfortable, and unique game-viewing experience.
Game drives are offered twice daily in the mornings and afternoons. Enjoy breakfast at sunrise while watching the fascinating wildlife up close. Afterwards, you will return to the camp until your second game drive starts in the afternoon. With your camera ready, you’ll track down the big five: lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino for another unforgettable experience.
The lodge also offers walking safaris for the most adventurous guests. An experienced ranger will accompany you, and it’s a fantastic way to explore the wonders of the African bush.
